“It was at a bright carnival,” he began. “I saw Annie the Anaconda at a reptile rescue booth.” Her scales shone like green leaves after rain. “I thought we could be calm friends.”

Then—POP! A balloon burst, and Annie slid away into the busy midway. “Pip! Marta!” I called. They rushed over, and we followed her smooth, swishy trail.

We tried to guide Annie with ribbon markers. She slipped under a popcorn cart—crunch, crunch! The noise made her faster. “Too loud,” whispered Marta. “We need softer help,” I said.

So I pumped, squeak-squeak, and tied a soft balloon tunnel—long and gentle. Pip held one end; Marta held the other. We spoke in quiet voices, and Annie slid inside like water.

Back at the rescue booth, Annie rested. I stroked the air near her, not her scales. “She should stay with helpers who know her needs,” I said. My heart felt full and a little pinchy.

Back in the park, Silly Baboon whispered, “That was brave and gentle.” I nodded. “Caring is choosing what helps a friend.” I twisted a long green balloon into a smiling snake for him.

The balloon snake curled on the bench, quiet as a vine. Silly Baboon patted it and said, “Thank you.” We listened to leaves hush and pumps squeak once more. The knot held, just right.
