The Sleepiest Kid in Class

Starring Sleepy Slime

Sleepy Slime arrives at school for the very first time, only to have a loud, pushy slime named Grunt mock its droopy eyes and slow wobble. When Grunt's teasing reaches its peak during rest time — the one moment Sleepy Slime truly shines — something unexpected happens that turns the whole class upside down. A gentle story about how being different can be exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment.

Sleepy Slime yawned so wide its purple nightcap nearly slipped off. Today was the very first day of school. It wobbled slowly through the big double doors, blinking one eye open just a crack.

The classroom smelled like fresh crayons and something biscuity. Sleepy Slime found the coziest corner seat and slumped right into it with a happy little sigh. "Finally," it murmured, and its eyes drifted nearly shut.

Then a big orange slime stomped over. "Hey, droopy!" it said. "Why are your eyes always shut? Are you even awake?" The orange slime's name was Grunt, and it laughed a loud, boingy laugh.

Sleepy Slime tried to walk to the art table to make a friend, but Grunt blocked the way. "Sleepy things don't belong at school," Grunt said. Sleepy Slime's nightcap drooped. It turned and wobbled back to its corner.

Ms. Puddle announced, "Time for rest period, everyone!" The whole class groaned — everyone except Sleepy Slime. Grunt flopped onto a mat and crossed its stubby arms. "I'm not tired," it grumbled.

Sleepy Slime curled up on its mat and began to hum — a low, soft sound like a distant lullaby. One by one, every slime in the class stopped squirming. Even Ms. Puddle's eyes went heavy. But Grunt was sure it would stay awake. It was sure.

When rest time ended, every slime woke up smiling — except Grunt, who had snored the loudest of all. Grunt's red cap had slipped sideways and a small drool puddle had formed on its mat. "I… I wasn't asleep," Grunt said. But its voice came out small.

A tiny pink slime named Dot scooted over to Sleepy Slime. "Will you hum again tomorrow?" Dot whispered. Sleepy Slime gave its slowest, warmest yawn. Across the room, Grunt said nothing — but it had moved its mat just a little bit closer.
