Mochi trotted up, nose twitching. "You smell like bubblegum clouds!" she said, wagging. The Hairy balloon man squeaked his silver hand-pump and laughed. "Pick a color, friend—my knots are the fastest in the garden!"

"Once, I met a snake," the man said, patting his jacket. He reached for scissors, but his face drooped. "Oh dear. Gone floaty-headed again." Because he couldn't cut ribbon, Mochi chose to help. "I'll sniff the shiny smell!"

Mochi followed a faint lemon-oil scent along the path. It led past daisies to a bench where metal glinted. She trembled at a long green coil, but leaned closer. "Not a snake," she sighed. "Just a hose!"

She brought the scissors back, and the man beamed. He started telling the snake story while tying, but he tugged too fast. Strings tangled like spaghetti, which cost time. A balloon bobbed away, and Mochi’s ears drooped.

"We need a plan," Mochi said. She laid ribbons like a map—red to red, blue to blue—so the man could snip the right spots. After they cleared the mess, he waved to the path and called, "Sorry for the wait!" Relief warmed Mochi’s chest.

“About the snake,” he said softly. “By the pond, a small green snake with a coral stripe was stuck in a kite tail.” He was scared at first, but the snake blinked kindly. So he whispered, snipped the ribbon, and the snake flicked its tongue toward his dropped scissors.

A bush rustled now, and a long shape slid near the flowers. Mochi’s heart thumped, but she remembered the story. She chose a gentle sniff and whispered, “Hello.” The small ribbon-striped snake emerged, carrying a lost ribbon spool on its back!

Because Mochi greeted kindly, the snake stayed. The man tied a balloon snake friend and said, “Brave can be gentle.” Mochi wagged as ribbons fluttered like tiny flags. In the glowing garden, her red bandana knot and his cotton-candy beard bobbed beside the real ribbon-striped snake.
