The Bramble, the Bell, and the Shimmering Shortcut

Starring Sofia
Sofia, Princess of the West, whispered, “Wait for me!” as the bell on the shimmering fox chimed like tiny stars. She followed the citrus-sweet scent it left, until the forest path ended in a wall of thorny bramble. “We can’t go through… can we?” she asked, touching a rough branch. Because she was curious and kind, she chose to look for a gentle way instead of pushing hard.
She tried nudging twigs with a stick, but the thorns snagged her dress and stole time, which made her sigh. “New plan,” Sofia said, collecting fallen petals to map loops and gaps on the ground while sniffing for the fox’s bright trail. The fox gave a soft trill, so she trusted her map and shifted left. Hope warmed her cheeks because a narrow opening seemed to appear.
Just as she reached the gap, the bramble tightened, and the wall grew taller, which scared the fox back a step. Sofia remembered snapping a twig before and felt sorry. “I’m sorry, bramble,” she said, sprinkling cool water from her flask and tying a pink ribbon to hold one thorn aside, while angling her tiara to catch the fox’s glow like a small lamp. Because she chose to mend instead of fight, the thorns eased a little.
With a rustle like rain, the bramble opened into a bright arch, so Sofia and the fox hurried through, laughing with relief. Fireflies swirled as the path beyond smelled of mint and honey. “Thank you,” she told the bramble, and the fox chimed in reply. Her tiara flashed on a single thorn flower behind them, reminding her that kindness lights the way.
