The Glowing S'more and the Leaf-Roof Grove
Starring Sofia, Val
After their mountain night with Ember the s'more-loving dragon, Sofia and Val follow a trail of toasted marshmallow crumbs to a hidden grove where Ember's kitchen roof of leaves is torn and a rainy festival is coming. Sofia finds a forgotten spice tin that changes flavors, but Val must face her shyness and teach Ember a safer way to toast treats in front of the whole grove. Together they invent a moon-glowing s'more recipe that saves the celebration and promises many more sticky, sweet visits ahead.
The morning after the mountain night, Sofia's rainbow dress still smelled like toasted marshmallow. She tucked the jar of sticky caramel — leftover from their last adventure — under her arm and tugged Val's sleeve. "The crumbs go THAT way," Sofia whispered, pointing at a trail of tiny toasted puffs on the mossy path.
Val rubbed her wavy silver necklace and hummed a quiet little tune — her steady trick. "We follow the crumbs," she said softly. "Just like last time, only this time WE brought the caramel." Sofia gave the jar a satisfied shake, and the caramel went GLORP.
The crumbs led to a hidden grove ringed with silver-leafed trees — and there was Ember, the gentle dragon, sitting under a saggy, torn roof of woven leaves. Big raindrops were starting to plop. "Oh dear, oh dear," Ember fretted, their copper scales going a worried grey. "The Rain Festival starts tonight and my roof is ALL holes!"
Sofia spotted something half-buried in a pile of dry leaves — a small round tin with swirly letters. She pried it open and the whole grove filled with a smell like cinnamon, then banana, then something fizzy she couldn't name. "This changes flavors!" she breathed. Sofia was absolutely sure the tin would fix the roof somehow. She sprinkled a pinch on the nearest torn leaf. Nothing happened. The leaf stayed torn.
Val looked at the holes in the roof, then at the long bendy branches nearby. "Weaving," she said quietly. "We need to weave new leaves in." Her fingers moved fast, threading branch over branch. But the roof was high — too high for Val and too high for Sofia. Only Ember could reach. Ember gulped. "What if I breathe fire by accident? Everyone will run away from me. Again."
Val's cheeks went a little pink — she knew exactly how it felt to have too many eyes watching. She stepped close to Ember and said, "I'll stand right here. You hum while you work — like this." She hummed her quiet tune. Ember blinked, then tried it. The hum turned into a warm, low rumble, and Ember's paws wove the tall leaves perfectly without a single spark.
Now the roof was whole and the Rain Festival could begin! But they still needed something special to eat. Sofia opened the magic spice tin and tapped a tiny pinch onto each s'more — the caramel ones they built together with the sticky jar from their adventure. Every s'more began to glow, soft and gold, under the rising moon. "They look like little lanterns!" Sofia giggled, bouncing on her toes.
Rain tapped gently on the mended leaf roof as the grove filled with other small creatures who had smelled the glowing s'mores from the trees. Ember passed out every last one — no fire needed, just hum-warmed chocolate and moon-lit caramel. Sofia licked the last sticky smear from her thumb, tucked the spice tin into her pocket, and looked at Val. Val winked and tucked a marshmallow crumb trail in her own pocket, so they could find their way back.
