The Reluctant Roller’s Yellow Zoom-To-School

Starring Whimpy weiner
Morning smelled like toast and car soap. “Can you drive us to school in the yellow zoom car?” Pip asked. Whimpy weiner wobbled, his glossy face showing worry. “I’m the Reluctant Roller,” he gulped, yet he chose, “I’ll learn today so we’re on time.”
They met Ms. Vroom at the empty lot because Whimpy wanted help. He slid on the slick seat, “Whoops!” So everyone built pedal extenders and a grippy towel mat with tape and blocks. Hope bubbled in his belly.
Driving the cone path, they chanted, “Tap, glide, stop.” A sharp turn bumped a cone, which spilled Pip’s juice on the seat and cost them time. Whimpy winced, cheeks hot. “We’ll fix it later,” Dot said, and they tried one more gentle loop.
Before sunrise, they made a bright sticker map of the safest streets, so they could leave early. Whimpy followed the map and counted the rhythm. Leather smelled sweet; the engine hummed. The school run had begun.
Halfway there, flashing trucks blocked the road, and a siren wailed, so Whimpy’s nerves sizzled. He almost turned back. Dot pointed to the tall school clock’s long shadow stretching east. “Side streets!” Pip said, and they chose a new path along the shadow.
The detour was bumpy, which made the old juice slick the seat again. Whimpy slid and bumped the mirror, losing more time and trust. They pulled over; Pip and Dot scrubbed the seat and tightened the towel. “Thanks, team,” Whimpy breathed, feeling steady again.
One steep hill remained, and the bell would ring soon. Whimpy chose calm over speed. “Tap, glide, stop,” he whispered, copying Ms. Vroom’s rhythm. The Lamborghini climbed smooth and sure.
They rolled to the curb as kids streamed inside, and cheers popped like popcorn. Ms. Vroom waved proudly. Pip tied the clean towel like a tiny flag on the mirror. Warm engine scent and happy hearts said it all: being brave can be steady and kind.
