Alice and the Lesson from the Dumpster
Starring Alice
Alice, a curious baby who loves exploring, discovers a sausage in a dumpster behind her house and takes a bite before her mother finds her. After getting sick from the spoiled food, Alice learns an important lesson about safety and asking grown-ups before eating unfamiliar things. Through gentle care and understanding, her mother helps Alice understand why some discoveries aren't meant to be tasted.
Alice giggled as she crawled across the backyard, her orange top bright against the green grass. She loved exploring every corner of her world, and today something new caught her eye near the back fence. "Ooh!" she squeaked, spotting the big blue dumpster she'd never noticed before.
The dumpster lid was open just enough for Alice to peek inside. Her nose wrinkled at the strange smell, but then she saw it—a shiny sausage wrapped in crinkly paper! "Mine!" Alice declared, reaching her small hand toward the treasure.
Alice grabbed the sausage and plopped down on the grass to examine her find. The paper felt crinkly in her fingers, making her laugh. Without thinking twice, she unwrapped it and took a big bite—it tasted funny and mushy, not like her usual snacks.
"Alice! What do you have?" Mama's worried voice called out from the back door. She rushed over and saw the half-eaten sausage in Alice's hand. "Oh no, sweetie, that's not safe to eat!" Mama gently took the sausage away, her face full of concern.
By dinnertime, Alice's tummy hurt terribly. She cried and held her round belly as Mama rocked her gently. "I know it hurts, my curious girl," Mama whispered softly. "That food was old and made you sick. We only eat food that Mama or Papa give us, okay?"
The next morning, Alice felt better after a good night's sleep. Mama sat with her on the kitchen floor, showing her pictures of safe foods versus dangerous ones. "See, Alice? When you find something, come show Mama first," she explained patiently. Alice nodded, finally understanding.
Later that day, Alice crawled into the backyard again and spotted something sparkly near the fence. Her hand reached out, then stopped. "Mama!" she called out proudly, remembering yesterday's lesson. Mama came running with a smile—this time, the sparkly thing was just a safe, pretty button.
That evening, Alice sat in her high chair eating apple slices Mama had cut for her. She giggled and clapped her hands, remembering how good it felt to ask first. The blue dumpster was still out back, but now Alice knew—the best treasures were the ones Mama said were safe.
