Bandanas, Blue Glasses, and the Boundary Beat

Starring Silly Baboon
Silly Baboon heard far-off drums and smelled dusty wind. He pushed up his blue glasses and tied his red-and-yellow bandana tight. "Something’s coming," he whispered, climbing a fig tree to peek. Because he looked, he saw a line of apes trooping over the ridge.
His belly fluttered, but he chose to act. Silly mashed mangoes into a sweet trail away from the nests, saying, "Follow the fruity road!" The invaders whooped, which made them speed up, loving the smell. Sticky juice slicked the leaves under his feet.
The plan backfired, so he darted to warn friends. Pippa the Parrot swooped in, squawking, "Map it, don’t mash it!" Together they drew a leaf-map of safe paths, but Silly’s old banana-peel prank made Pippa skid. Trust wobbled, and precious time slipped away.
He owned the mistake. "I’m sorry, Pippa. No more tricks—just smarts," he said, tapping a hollow log. Because drums carry, he copied the warning beat. But a rhythm slip said, "Come share fruit," which invited the apes into the clearing!
The biggest ape stepped forward, not roaring but coughing. "I am Chief Rumba. Smoke chases us. We seek water, not war," he rumbled. Hearing this changed Silly’s goal, so he chose to guide instead of block. He promised to fix the mess and help everyone feel safe.
To keep nests safe, Silly built leaf-flumes to funnel the thirsty apes past the village. Pippa strung shiny shells that chimed, making a "follow-this" sound path. Because the first group moved well, a second group started copying…toward the nests! Pressure thumped like drums in his chest.
He flipped plans fast. Using glow beetles in gourds and shiny sand, he made a sparkling path and tapped a brand-new beat: "River, this way!" Chief Rumba echoed the rhythm, which turned the strayers around. Together they flowed to the river, cheers mixing with cool spray.
At sunset, everyone drank and shared figs. Pippa said, "New rule: the boundary beat means ask first." Silly tied his red-and-yellow bandana on a post by the path, and Chief Rumba tapped the friendly code. Blue glasses twinkled as the jungle hummed, safe and calm.
