Sofia and the Not-So-Scary Shadow

Starring Sofia
Sofia wandered into the bright green glade, chasing a fluttery blue butterfly. Suddenly, she bumped into Jake, a new boy she hadn't seen before. "Watch where you're going!" Jake snapped, crossing his arms. Sofia felt a wave of nervousness in her belly, her hands gripping the soft folds of her dress.
Jake glared and scuffed his shoe into the dirt, making dust swirl. "This is my spot! Go away," he grumbled. Sofia's cheeks turned warm, but she took a deep breath and said softly, "The forest is big enough for both of us." She noticed Jake's eyes looked a little sad behind his scowl.
With a sudden growl, Jake kicked a pebble toward the pond, but it landed with just a soft plop. "Why are you always so happy?" he sighed, sounding tired. Sofia watched the ripples and said, "Sometimes I'm scared, too. But being kind helps me feel brave." Jake looked down, picking at a leaf.
After a quiet moment, Jake mumbled, "Maybe... we could both watch the butterflies?" Sofia grinned, feeling her heart lighten as colorful butterflies danced above them. "I'd like that," she said. As the sun warmed their shoulders, the forest felt friendlier, and two new friends watched the fluttery parade together.
