Starring Sofia

Princess Sofia of the West goes camping in the forest with her sparkly tiara and a little wind-up lantern she loves to carry. When a wolf appears near her campsite, Sofia feels her tummy twist with fear and must decide what to do in the dark. As she listens and looks closer, she discovers the wolf isn’t trying to be scary—he is hurt and needs help. Sofia uses gentle bravery to make things safer for both of them, and her lantern glows warmly beside the tent at the end.

Pine needles crunched under Sofia’s shoes as she stepped into the camping spot. Her silver tiara with pink gems winked in the last sun, and she held her favorite wind-up lantern. “Princess of the West can camp, too,” she said, smiling at the trees.

She set up her tiny tent and placed the lantern by the flap like a brave little guard. Then she chose to explore a few steps, looking for a smooth “wishing stone.” The air smelled like sap and damp earth, and far away an owl went “hoo.”

A long howl slid through the trees—“Awooooo.” Sofia froze, and her warm brown eyes went wide. Between two bushes, she saw amber eyes watching, so she chose to back up slowly and whisper, “Please don’t come closer.”

Because her hands were shaking, the lantern slipped and rolled—click—into the dark. “Oh no, my light!” Sofia breathed, feeling her heart thump. She chose to kneel and wind it again, turning the handle until a soft glow returned.

The lantern light made Wylie clear enough to see his limp. He wasn’t growling; he was panting, and one paw hovered above the ground. Sofia swallowed, then said, “Are you… hurt?”

Sofia chose kindness, even while she was still scared. She slowly poured water into a little cup and set it down, then tore a clean strip from her spare cloth. “I’ll help, but we both have to be gentle,” she murmured.

After Wylie drank, Sofia used the cloth to hold his paw steady and tugged the thorn out with careful fingers. Wylie flinched once, then let out a long “huff” like a sigh. He nudged her lantern gently, as if saying, “Thank you.”

Wylie padded back into the trees, and this time his steps looked easier. Sofia chose to hang her lantern by the tent flap so the forest could see a friendly light. Under the pines, the lantern glowed steady and warm, and Sofia whispered, “Brave can be gentle.”
