“Hi! I’m Cheepie,” said Cheepie, giving a tiny jingle to the stone in their pocket—tink! Mina looked up from her crinkly map and smiled. “I’m making a path to the Sunflower Swing,” she said. The happy tink made Cheepie feel brave, so they asked, “Want a buddy?”

They set off because buddies make quests more fun. Cinnamon roll smells floated from the bakery, so Mina traced that scent on her map. A tall hedge tunnel waited ahead, very quiet, which made Cheepie’s tummy wobble. Cheepie tapped the jingle stone to feel steady. “We’ve got this,” they said.

Inside the hedge tunnel, their footsteps went shush-shush. “Let’s count steps,” Cheepie whispered, and Mina nodded, tapping numbers on the map. The counting kept the quiet from feeling too big, so they popped out by a giggling creek. Bright water splashed silver over smooth stones.

They hopped on the creek stones, but a slippery one tilted. Mina splashed, and the map plopped into the water—oh no! The colors smeared like rainbows, which cost them time. Cheepie’s heart dipped; Mina’s socks went squish-squish.

Cheepie rubbed the jingle stone—tink—and had an idea. “Let’s draw a new map,” they said. Using a stick on sandy ground, they marked the creek and the big oak, watching the sun make long, pointing shadows. Mina’s grin came back, which made Cheepie feel taller inside.

After the oak, a sign had blown down, and two paths split apart. The grove grew extra quiet, and Cheepie’s stone got stuck deep in the pocket and wouldn’t jingle. Cheepie’s toes curled. “New plan,” they said, voice small but steady. “We’ll follow the shadows like a compass.”

Cheepie squeezed Mina’s hand and stepped onto the shadow-pointed path. They hummed a tiny tune to fill the quiet, which made their tummy settle. Sunflowers opened like smiling suns, and the swing appeared at last. Kids cheered while Mina laughed, “You led us true!”

They shared the new map at the board so other kids could find the swing. Cheepie’s stone finally went tink again, soft as a happy bell. “Friends help brave grow,” Cheepie said, and Mina nodded. The sun dipped low, painting the map, the swing, and two buddies in warm gold.
