Sofia slips into the little red car and fastens her seatbelt. “First, we check mirrors,” says Sir Rolland, his voice gentle. Sofia feels fluttery-nervous and excited, smelling lemon polish and new leather. “I’m ready,” she whispers, touching the cool, silver steering wheel.

The engine purrs like a happy kitten, and the car rolls forward. “Nice and easy,” says Sir Rolland, as birds chirp and a buttery breeze tickles Sofia’s hair. She turns too soon and bumps a soft cone—boop! Her stomach dips, but Sir Rolland says, “Mistakes help us learn.”

Sofia breathes in, then tries the figure-eight again. “Look where you want to go,” Sir Rolland reminds her. She signals, steers smooth, and guides the car around a puddle that smells like rain and daisies. “I can do this!” she says, feeling brave in her chest.

With a soft sigh of tires, Sofia parks between two cones—straight and still. Sir Rolland pins a tiny learner’s ribbon to her dress, and her heart feels warm and floaty. “Thank you,” she says, grinning. The car smells like lemons and victory as doves flutter past the castle towers.
