Sock Slides and Second Plans

Starring Evan Litvak, Justin
Music boomed, and grill smells drifted through the backyard. "Sock-slide race!" Justin called, flashing a laid-back grin. Evan tapped his glasses—tap, tap—his idea spark. "Let’s mark a safe runway by the grass," he whispered, which made Justin nod.
Justin showed a goofy practice slide, socks squeaking on the smooth stone. Cheers popped like popcorn, so Evan’s cheeks warmed and his tummy wobbled. The music thumped and the smoky smell grew strong, which made Evan step back toward the lilac bush.
Evan’s tummy flipped, and he threw up behind the lilac bush. A big golden retriever in a blue bandana trotted over to sniff kindly. Dizzy, Evan grabbed the soft fur and slid onto the dog’s back like it was a pony, which startled a few kids.
Justin saw and waved his hands. "Race pause!" he called, choosing Evan over the game. He gently helped Evan off Moose, patted the dog, and whispered, "We’re heading home." A few groans rose, which stung, but Justin decided caring came first.
At home, Justin turned on the tap, but Evan flinched at the splash. So Justin switched plans and pressed a cool, dripping washcloth to Evan’s forehead. Mint tea steamed nearby as Justin said softly, "Smell the mint in… and out." Evan’s shoulders eased.
"I’m okay now," Evan whispered, tapping his frames—tap, tap. A new plan popped out: a quiet sock-slide at home. They laid towels for a soft lane and made arrows from colorful socks, which turned worry into a tiny smile.
Justin glided gently while Evan filmed, but a squeak made a tall vase wobble—uh-oh! They froze. Evan pointed to thicker towels and set mint tea bags like a scent trail for slow steps, which calmed the sounds. Take two worked, and they sent a kind video apology and challenge.
Soon, happy clips of quiet slides lit their screen, so Justin’s grin came back. "Friends first," he said. Evan built a tiny reading corner with pillows and a blanket, and Justin hung their silly socks to dry. The room smelled like mint, and everything felt kind again.
