Tick-Tock, Tingle-Keys, and the Hushed-Heart Lullaby

Starring Alice
Alice giggled, “Tick-tock, little box!” She crawled in her orange top, clutching her toy with colorful shapes, and poked the bright, ticking box, which made a tiny door pop open. Soft light spilled out, and her round cheeks warmed with happy surprise.
Inside, a tangled pile of blinking keys chimed whenever Alice reached for them, so the sounds turned into jingly sparkles. “I want the song,” she whispered, nose wrinkling at the metal smell. She paused, noticing the keys blinked in a color pattern that matched shapes on her toy, which gave her an idea to map the lights like a code.
She tapped the keys like a xylophone—ding, ding, dong—and a hushy tune began, but the ticking sped up, and the door started to close. “Uh-oh!” Alice said, heart jumpy, because the tangle was pulling tight. She chose a new plan: cup the keys, play the pattern backward, and use her toy’s soft edges as gentle mallets to free and sort them.
Because she played the careful, backward code, the tangle loosened, the door opened wide, and a hidden lullaby floated out like warm cocoa steam. “Shh… hello, sleepy song,” Alice murmured, smiling as soft starry light settled over her toys. She hummed along and tucked the sorted keys inside, which restored the quiet and made the box glow calm for bedtime.
