Canyon Tinks and Dragon Wings

Starring Cheepie, Mochi
Cheepie and Mochi reached the Grand Canyon, and the air smelled like sun-warmed pine. "Big place," Cheepie whispered, feeling a tiny wobble in the quiet. The jingle stone tinked in Cheepie’s pocket, which made courage fizz again.
An echo hummed from below, like a friendly purr, so they followed the sound along the rim. "Maybe it’s our dragon friend," Cheepie said, and Mochi barked, "Wruff!" Because they had a goal now, their steps felt sure and quick.
They found Saffron the Canyon Dragon sunning on a warm ledge. Mochi trotted over to nuzzle, and Saffron’s amber eyes sparkled kindly. A gust hushed the world, which made Cheepie’s tummy wobble, so the jingle stone tinked and steadied brave feet.
Cheepie hurried to help brush pebbles from Saffron’s ledge, but the jingle stone slipped and skittered down to a lower shelf. They lost time, and Saffron glanced at the sun. "We must be quick," she said, which made Cheepie’s cheeks go warm.
“I have a plan,” Cheepie said, tying a shoelace to a trail map tube and a stick to make a scoop. Mochi sniffed the air and pointed her nose to the stone’s spot, so the tool found it fast. After the rescue, Cheepie helped tidy Saffron’s ledge, which fixed the lost-time grumps.
They lifted off, following bright stripes of sunlight like shiny rails. A sudden crosswind shoved hard, so Saffron dipped and landed on a narrow shelf. "Ride’s over?" Cheepie asked, heart thumping, and chose a new idea before worry grew.
“Let’s glide low along the river,” Cheepie said. “We’ll use the cool shadow path, and Mochi can sniff safe wind.” Saffron nodded, so they swooped between painted walls; ripples flashed like arrows, and joy whooped up from hikers below.
They landed at dusk, hearts light and warm. Cheepie tapped the jingle stone, and it tinked like a tiny bell in the giant canyon glow. “Brave can be small,” Cheepie said, and Saffron and Mochi cuddled close, so the whole place felt like a friend.
