The Day Hairy Balloon Man Met Silky the Snake
Starring Hairy balloon man, Justin
At the city meadow, Hairy balloon man tells Justin about the first time he heard a hiss by the river and met a snake tangled in balloon strings. He felt scared but chose to listen and help. Without scissors, he solved the problem with gentle words and clever knots. The story shows how curiosity and empathy can turn fear into a new friend.
The park breeze made the balloons bob and whisper. “Tell me your best adventure,” Justin said with a grin. Hairy balloon man patted his squeaky hand-pump. “Once, long ago, I heard a hiss by the river, and my heart went boing.”
“I was new at tying knots,” he said. “My strings tangled like spaghetti, and then—hissss—from the reeds!” He stepped closer because the sound needed help, not running feet.
There lay a snake, wrapped in wayward strings, balloons tugging toward a low branch. “Please,” the snake whispered, “I don’t want to float away.” Hairy balloon man gulped, then said, “I can try.”
Wind whooshed, and the balloons pulled harder. He reached for scissors—oh no, gone again! “I’ll use my knots,” he told himself, and he smiled at the snake. “We’ll do it together.”
He slid a loop, tugged a ribbon, and made a slip-knot that loosened like a yawn. “Hold still… almost,” he said. The snake kept very still, and the strings fell free, one by one.
Suddenly, a gust lifted the last balloons—and his cap! He looped the ribbons around the branch and tied a quick anchor knot. The snake helped by nudging the ribbon closer with a gentle push.
Back in the meadow, Justin clapped. “Best save ever,” he said. Hairy balloon man puffed his beard proud. “I learned that listening turns scary into friendly.” He twisted a tiny snake balloon and tied on a soft blue ribbon.
They set the snake balloon by the river bench to remember. The real scissors poked from his pocket at last, silly and safe. Justin whispered, “Kindness challenge: complete.” The breeze hummed, and the balloons bobbed like happy nods.
