Starring Cheepie

Cheepie looks forward to a park day, but sudden rain scrambles every plan. With patient help from Tía Marisol, Cheepie learns calming steps, cleans up a small mess, and creates new indoor adventures using a hand-drawn map and light-and-shadow play. The story gently shows that change is hard and that Cheepie can handle it with tools, practice, and care.

Cheepie bounced by the door, sneakers double-knotted and pocket jingle stone tink-tinking. “Park time!” they declared, eyes wide and ready. Tía Marisol zipped a snack bag. “Sunblock, water, and a brave buddy,” she said, which made Cheepie grin even wider.

A sudden patter became a rush; rain smeared the sky like gray paint. Tía Marisol checked the weather and sighed. “Storm warning, cariño. No park today.” Cheepie’s stomach fizzed hot, and their brows pinched. “But I planned it,” they whispered, staring at the wet window.

The fizz burst into a storm inside. Cheepie plunked their backpack down too hard, which popped the lid on a juice cup and splashed the rug. “I don’t get it!” they cried. Tía Marisol knelt, not scolding. “Your plan changed, and that’s confusing. Let’s breathe with your jingle stone.”

Cheepie pressed the cool stone between fingertips, breathing in for four, out for six, counting the tiny tink. The rush inside thinned a little, so they nodded. “I can help,” Cheepie said, grabbing towels. Together they dabbed the spill, which made the room feel less wobbly.

“We can make a rain plan,” Tía Marisol said, sliding paper and markers across the table. Cheepie drew a quick map: couch-cave, pillow steps, and a window-watching station. Because they had a goal again, their spark returned. “First stop: the couch-cave!”

They built the couch-cave and set up shadow animals for later. A thunder roll boomed, and the lights blinked out. Cheepie froze, map in hand. “Our plan needs light,” they said, heart thumping, which pushed the worry back in.

Cheepie touched the jingle stone, thinking fast. “New plan,” they said, grabbing a flashlight and taping it to a clear jar to make a glowing lighthouse. Tía Marisol cheered, and they followed the map path, parading through pillow steps and swirling shadow puppets. The living room filled with claps and small whoops of joy.

Later, the rain softened to a hush. They sipped cocoa, the map drying on the table with a cocoa ring like a badge. “Plans change,” Tía Marisol said, “and you handled it.” Cheepie rolled the jingle stone in their palm and smiled. “I can do it again,” they said, and meant it.
