Sunshine Picnic in the Park

Paloma and her two-year-old daughter Penelope pack a picnic basket and head to Central Park on a bright, sunny day. Penelope stuffs her tiny pocket with a fallen leaf she finds along the way, while Paloma carefully writes 'OUR PICNIC DAY' on a paper scrap before spreading out the blanket. When a gust of wind sends the paper scrap sailing toward the fountain, Penelope toddles after it and plops right into a muddy puddle. Together they salvage the crumpled, soggy note and smooth it flat on the warm blanket, pressing the leaf on top as the best kind of memory-keeper.

Paloma wrote on a scrap so **small**, "OUR PICNIC DAY" in letters **tall**. She tucked it safe inside the **basket**, Before Penelope could even **ask it**.

Down the path to the park they **went**, Through the warm and flowery **scent**. Penelope grabbed a crinkly **leaf**, And stuffed it deep in her pocket with **relief**.

They found a spot on the grassy **ground**, Where clover and daisies were **found**. Paloma shook the blanket **wide**, And Penelope plopped right **inside**.

Out came the sandwiches, grapes, and **cheese**, All set so neatly, Paloma felt **pleased**. She set the paper scrap **flat**, Right where the sun and the shadow **sat**.

Then whoooosh came a gust of whirling **air**, And sent the paper scrap up **there**! "Oh no!" called Paloma with a **shout**, But Penelope was already **out**.

Splish! Right into a muddy **puddle**, Penelope landed in a muddy **muddle**. The paper scrap spun down and **dropped**, Right where Penelope's small boot **stopped**.

Penelope picked it up so **proud**, And waved the soggy scrap **aloud**. "Mama, look! Our day is **here**!" Paloma pulled her close and laughed with **cheer**.

They smoothed the scrap on the blanket **red**, A muddy, crumpled memory **spread**. Penelope patted it flat with a **grin**, And tucked the crinkly leaf right **in**.
