The Big Big Slide
Starring Ella, Blizzard Ben
Cousins Blizzard Ben and Mimi Puff face their biggest playground challenge yet—a towering spiral slide that makes both their hearts thump. When Mimi freezes halfway up the ladder, Ben must choose between his own fear and helping his little cousin. Through gentle encouragement and their calming rituals, they discover that brave doesn't mean unafraid—it means climbing together, one step at a time.
Blizzard Ben stood at the snowy playground, his shiny blue-purple visor catching the morning sun. "There it is, Mimi—the big big slide!" he said, pointing up at the tallest spiral slide in the whole village. Mimi clutched her pink vest pockets where little animal faces peeked out, her dark eyes growing wide. The slide gleamed like a silver ribbon winding down from the sky, making her tummy feel fluttery.
"Are you ready?" Ben asked, tapping his helmet twice—tap-tap—to feel brave. Mimi hummed her soft pocket-song, the tune she used when things felt scary. "I… I think so," she whispered, but her feet stayed stuck in the snow. The ladder stretched up and up, each rung looking smaller than the last.
Because Ben wanted to help his little cousin, he climbed first. "Follow me—one step, then another!" he called down. Mimi grabbed the cold metal and pulled herself up, her pocket-song growing a little louder. One rung. Two rungs. Three! Then she looked down and froze, her hands gripping tight. "Ben, it's so high!" she squeaked.
Ben's heart thumped fast too. He could zoom down alone and reach the cocoa hut quickly—but Mimi needed him. So he climbed back down two rungs until he was right beside her. "Look at my goggles instead of the ground," he said gently, adjusting his visor so it caught a rainbow sparkle. "See? Now just one more step." Mimi's eyes locked on the pretty colors, and she lifted her foot.
Step by step they climbed together, Mimi humming and Ben tapping his helmet whenever the wind howled—tap-tap. "You're doing it!" Ben cheered when they reached the platform at the top. But then Mimi peered down the twisty slide tunnel and her humming stopped. "It's like a snake hole," she whispered, backing away from the opening.
Ben felt his own butterflies, but he remembered why they'd climbed. "How about we go together?" he suggested, his gray scarf flapping in the wind. Mimi touched the animal faces on her pockets—peek-and-smile—and nodded slowly. Ben sat down first, then Mimi squeezed in front of him, tucked safe in his arms. "On three! One… two… THREE!" They pushed off.
Whoooooosh! They spiraled down, the world spinning in silver and white. Mimi's pocket-song burst into giggles, and Ben's scarf streamed behind them like a flag. Round and round they flew until—bump!—they tumbled into the soft snow pile at the bottom, laughing so hard their tummies hurt. "We did the big big slide!" Mimi shouted, jumping up to hug Ben.
Later, at the cocoa hut, Mimi showed the shopkeeper her pocket animals. "These little faces helped me be brave," she explained proudly. Ben tapped his helmet—tap-tap—and smiled under his scarf. Being brave didn't mean having no scary feelings; it meant climbing together, holding on when you needed to, and whooshing down when you were ready. Outside, the big big slide gleamed in the sunset, waiting for their next adventure.
