Blink-Blink, Sloth-Think: Evan’s Cozy Plan

Starring Evan Litvak
At the library, Evan learned he had become a sloth—slow and steady, but still thinking fast. He blinked behind his rounded black glasses twice and gently tapped his frames twice; a tiny plan sparkled in his mind. The warm paper smell and quiet hum made him brave.
He blinks his glasses twice and decides to tiptoe toward the bookshelf to make a snug reading spot for his cousin. Because he moves sloth-slow, he sketches a tiny map on a sticky note with careful arrows. Lila spots him and waves, which makes him smile shyly.
Evan gathers cushions and a folded blanket, using his plan. But a stack of glossy magazines slips—whoosh! Mr. Reed hurries over, and time feels wobbly. Evan’s cheeks warm, and Lila winces because the mess grew big.
So Evan taps his frames twice, and a calmer plan pops: sort by color, then stack neatly. Lila helps, and Mr. Reed’s frown melts to a small smile. Because the mess is fixed, trust returns, and Evan spots a quiet nook by the low shelf.
Just then, the lights flicker and dim, which makes the room murmur and wiggle. Evan gets shy when eyes turn to him, but his sloth-self whispers, Slow can still help. He points to the nook and readies the blanket like a soft wall.
Evan taps his frames twice; a bright idea twinkles. He uses a tiny flashlight to paint a slow, glowing trail on the floor, and a sloth-shaped shadow dances on the shelf. Kids hush, and the room breathes easier because the path feels safe.
They finish the nest: a cushiony curve, a blanket roof, and room for stories. Evan whispers, "Will this comfy nest be okay?" Lila squeezes the pillow and nods because it feels snug and safe.
"Yes," Evan whispers, "Let me add a soft pillow and a tiny flashlight so you can read whenever you like." He tucks the pillow and clips the flashlight just so, which makes everyone sigh with happy relief. Mr. Reed gives a thumbs-up, and kids settle into the warm, twinkly nook.
