Elsa Bats the Day
Elsa, a determined young girl who loves cricket, steps up to bat for the first time in a real match and misses the ball completely, sending her team into a muddy scramble. Through a clever change in how she holds the bat, she discovers her own swing and hits the biggest shot of the afternoon. The story celebrates confidence, learning from mistakes, and finding your own way to play.
Elsa loved cricket more than **cake**, She practised every swing she could **make**. She tapped the crease and stamped her **feet**, Today was the day the ball would **meet**!
Coach Pip blew her whistle — **tweet**! She called out, "Elsa, take your **seat** Behind the crease and hold on **tight**, You bat for us — make sure you **fight**!"
The bowler ran in — thud, thud, **thud**, Elsa swung hard... and fell in the **mud**! The ball rolled past, she missed it **clean**, The wobbliest swing that anyone had **seen**!
She sat on the crease with muddy **knees**, Sure she had this — now she felt the **freeze**. "I was certain I'd hit it," Elsa **said**, Coach Pip came over and scratched her **head**.
"Your grip is all twisted, top hand too **low**, Slide it up high — give it a **go**." Elsa shifted her fingers — one, two, **three**, Something felt different. Could this be the **key**?
The bowler ran in again — here it **came**, Elsa breathed out and took careful **aim**. She swung the bat slow, letting it **flow**, She nicked it... and watched the ball trickle **below**.
"Again!" shouted Pip. "You're finding your **swing**!" Elsa grinned — her bat began to **sing**. The next ball came in, red and **round**, She hit it so hard it left the **ground**!
The ball flew over the old oak **tree**, Elsa ran, laughing, "One! Two! And **three**!" She skidded back in, boots full of **grass**, And Coach Pip's gap-toothed grin was as wide as a **pass**.
