Elsa's Splashy Bath Night
Elsa, a curious five-year-old girl, gets ready for her nightly bath but discovers the bathroom is full of surprises — a missing rubber duck, suspiciously sudsy floor, and a very wet cat. Through her own detective work she tracks down every missing item and learns that getting clean can be the messiest adventure of all.
Elsa stomped down the hall in her lavender bathrobe, her yellow hair ties bouncing. Bath time. Every single night. She pushed open the bathroom door and stopped. The floor was covered in soap bubbles, all the way to the mat.
Elsa looked at the bathtub. The tap was still dripping. The whole bottle of bubble bath was empty. And her rubber duck, Pip, was gone. She put her hands on her hips. "Pip never runs away," she said.
Elsa got down on her knees and peered under the sink. Two amber eyes blinked back at her. It was Mochi, the cat, sitting in a nest of wet towels. His orange fur was damp and very sudsy. Pip the rubber duck was wedged between his paws.
"Mochi! You used ALL my bubble bath!" Elsa said. Mochi blinked slowly. The bell on his collar gave one tiny jingle. He did not look sorry at all.
Elsa tried to pull Pip free. Mochi held on tight. She tugged. He squeezed. Then she let go and Mochi tumbled forward right into the bubble pile. Suds flew everywhere, including onto Elsa's nose.
Mochi shook himself. Pip flew up and landed in the bathtub with a squeak. Elsa wiped suds off her nose and looked at the cat. He looked back at her. They were both very, very soapy already.
Elsa scooped up Mochi. He was surprisingly easy to carry when he was wet. She climbed into the tub, cat and all. Mochi stood on the edge, dipping one white paw in, then the other.
Later, Elsa sat on the bathroom mat in a fresh dry robe, combing suds out of Mochi's ears with her fingers. The bubbles were gone. The towels were in the hamper. Pip sat on the edge of the tub, exactly where he belonged.
